Romantic Reds
Red is the color of festivity, vibrancy, energy and
love. It is also one of the most common colors used in Holi. Prepare
healthy red powder and color at home using these simple tips:
- Dry red rose petals completely by spreading them on some
newspaper. Direct sunlight quickens this process. Grind these rose
petals and use this red powder as 'gulal' to smear the faces of your
friends.
- Soak red rose petals in water overnight. Filter the rose water in
the morning. This rose water is soothing to eyes and can also be
used as a deodorant on a daily basis.
- The red sandalwood powder can be used as Red Gulal. It is
beneficial for skin and is often used in face packs.
- Boil two teaspoon of red sandalwood powder in five liters of
water. Dilute it with twenty liters of water to get red color
solution.
- Dry red hibiscus flowers in the shade and grind them to a lovely
red color. One can experiment with different shades of red by adding
any flour to the red powder. It will also increase its bulk.
- Sinduria or Annato, a water-chestnut-shaped fruit has seeds of
brick red color. They can be ground and used as dry color or boiled
in water to give brick red colored solution.
- Water can be boiled with peels of red pomegranate or wood of
Madder Tree to give a lovely red color.
- Tomato and carrot juice diluted with enough water to remove the
stickiness is a healthy option for natural red color for Holi.
